Wedding Cake Design Ideas

Traditional Wedding Cake

The traditional wedding cake is all white with classical understated designs. Along with the typical designs of swirls and dots, one can also go for basket weave, quilting designs, damask designs, etc. In the classical wedding cake, the designs are also made in white color or sometimes, in pearl or silver traces. Sugar paste flowers like roses, calla lilies, gardenia, etc., usually top the classic wedding cake.
Wedding Cake with Real Flowers

Now, if you wish to give your traditional wedding cake a more colorful look, then you can think of adding real flowers to it. Real flowers like roses and orchids are the most popular cake decorations. Sometimes, brides even wish to match or contrast their bridal bouquets with flowers. If you wish to make a wedding cake with flowers, you can use the classic white cake as the base as all flowers go with white color. Once you have decided the flowers, you can either go for the bouquet type cake or arrange the flowers in a cascading manner from the top. You can even sprinkle edible flower petals all over the cake.

Wedding Cake with Fruits

These cakes have also been favored since long time, and is equally popular today. In most of the cases, the cake used here is a traditional white cake topped or decorated with fresh fruits like strawberries, berry fruits, blueberries, grapes, etc. You can also make fruits using sugar paste and use them for decorating the wedding cake.

Vintage Inspired Wedding Dresses

Vintage if worn the right way can help achieve an array of looks. Right from traditional and conservative, to contemporary and chic, it can work well with it all. A little help with the right jewelry, and possibly the right kind of makeup, and a bride could look like a vision in white in a vintage inspired wedding dress. See what all there is to choose from when working with this timeless look.

Short Wedding Dresses
Who ever said, vintage meant endlessly long dresses? There are absolutely no hard and fast rules when it comes to vintage wedding dresses. In fact, the short look works really well in combination with the classic touch. Lace, taffeta, ruffles, bows, classic cuts, delicate detailing... There's so much to pick from.

Did you know that it was Coco Chanel who introduced the concept of short wedding dresses in the 1920s, and once it was done, it was done! Brides took to the concept so well, that there was no turning back. Except for the slight lull in the 1930s, this trend was here to stay. If you give it some serious thought, a short wedding dress screams practicality! You can dance your heart out, and it can be modified and worn again!! (What can I say, I feel inspired by 27 Dresses). Whether you choose to work with something fitted, or something with more body is entirely your decision, because no matter what you pick, it'll look good either way.

Imagine a classic fitted dress made entirely of satin and an overlay of some vintage looking lace. Get it in a length that hits just a little above the knee and complete your look with some really classy shoes, and you're good to go with this style. Another option could be something more out there... While the first option was a more elegant look, the second is about going all out and girly!! A snug bodice with a high waist made of lots of delicate details along with the lower half resembling a skirt with a lot of volume, this portion of the dress could be done with heavily bodied fabrics like taffeta (not everybody's thing!) or perhaps even organza. As long as you know how to work it, this dress will look perfect. What makes it better is, if you are going ahead with a summer wedding, or maybe even choosing to have a beach wedding, a short dress will just be so convenient and make so much sense.

Full Length Wedding Dresses
Contrary to the short wedding dress is the ever popular full length wedding dress. With a variety of options to choose from, there is no way you could go wrong with long and vintage. I know that a lot of ladies are partial to the longer dresses, and I think it's well within reason. The best part is, any kind of work done on a short dress can be used on a long one too, and there's a lot beyond that too.

An empire waist gown can work wonders for women with the perfect figure. A popular style from the 40s and 50s, you could mix styles, and play with bits of old and new in the same dress. For a trendy touch, you could get something with embellishment right at the empire line, or if heavy accessorizing isn't your deal, leave it plain and simple with nothing more than a satin sash. An elegant white or ivory gown with a basic black satin band, or maybe even teal for a change, could work very well.

If you don't care so much about the above mentioned style, you could ditch it for something with a slim silhouette, or jazz it with the mermaid cut in a rich fabric instead. In case of simpler designs, it is always the fabric that plays a bigger role, so as to make the dress look more alluring. An A-line gown is an almost foolproof option too. A dropped waist with embroidery on the lower half could be so charming, it could make heads turn. Another option is keeping the dress simple, but going big on the accessories. You decide!

How to Plan A Gorgeous Owl Baby Shower

Naturally themed baby showers are becoming increasingly popular, and one of the most popular new ideas is to incorporate owls into the theme. Whether Mom-to-be loves owls or you're just looking for the perfect way to do something a bit different, an owl baby shower is the way to go. Keep in mind that in many cases, word play will be the name of the game. From banners reading "Baby Whoooo?" to invitations that use an owl's signature call, many of your cutest decorations and accents will probably incorporate at least a little word play. Here are a few ideas that will help you cover every aspect of the upcoming shower.
There are so many cute ideas for owl baby shower invitations designs with owl theme. If owls is your theme because you're trying to do a baby shower from a greener perspective, you may want to consider skipping the traditional invitation completely. Instead, use a site like evite.com or smilebox.com to create designs that perfectly match your theme. Both sites offer a variety of customizable designs, and both sites have free options so the design and sending process doesn't have to actually cost anything. For an eco-friendly baby shower, this is absolutely the choice you want to make.
There are so many fun ways to decorate for this theme. As you did with the invitations, you may want to stick with the natural colors or colors that match your tableware pattern for the decorations. In fact, you may want to stay as natural as possible, incorporating some of your cartoon owl images where you can. One great decorative idea is to use tree branches, instead of flowers, as your table centerpiece. Place them in a vase, just as you would fresh flowers, and you've achieved a perfect owl home inside. You could also create a paper tree on the wall, then hang your nametags from the branches using these party suppliers

Fashion-Inspired Wedding Cakes

What makes a wedding gown special? Extraordinary embellishments, of course. Here, desserts get adorned with fabulous flounces, beautiful beading, and more. Playing dress-up just got delicious.
A David Fielden gown served as the inspiration for this cake.
The net-and-bead fabric displayed as a tablecloth served as the model for this cake. The four tiers were covered in seafoam-green rolled fondant, then decorated with "reeds" made out of hand-piped royal icing; the beaded icing "leaves" on each stem were painted with luster dust to add shine.
To create this dazzling design with a glittering trim, Kromer used a scallop cutter to shape bands out of gum paste. Then she piped the edges with royal icing and sprinkled them with gold-colored sanding sugar and 10-karat-gold twinkle dust (available at fine cake-supply stores).

Those Angels Make Love Stronger

"A baby will make love stronger, days longer, nights shorter, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for."
